“Passport Fiasco” So it had been 10 years since I last left the country. Yep, you read that right, 10 YEARS. To say I was anxious is an understatement, I was ABSOLUTELY PETRIFIED!! Let me start right from the beginning with my passport fiasco. Here goes. Due to the fact that I hadn’t been out […]

WHO IS LAURA SPOONIE?

B/W - Laura Spoonie

Hi all,

My name is Laura, and i’m in my early twenties.

I suffer from multiple Chronic illnesses; Fibromyalgia, CRPS, Asthma, to name a few. I’ve also had a long time battle with mental illness and been a young carer since the age of 11.

I created this site to encourage my fellow Spoonies, showing that no matter your circumstance you can always set goals and accomplish things you may have always dreamed of doing. I started blogging my struggles, victories, language learning, photography, product reviews and art so I can share it with the world and take you on my journey of growth and self-development.

I hope to inspire and uplift whether you’re a part of #SpoonSquad or not, so feel free to subscribe and join me on this journey.

I also adore Sunflowers so if you ever wanna share any sunflower pics with me then you are more than welcome.

Check out my, ‘Lessons from a Sunflower’ post and leave some feedback if you like.

Thank you for stopping by.

Peace & Positivity,
Love & Light

Laura Spoonie ❤

XOXO

5 Things Depression Made Me Forget... 💭 • • 1) I MATTER Feeling worthless can come as a result of suffering depression & feeling like you don't matter. Depression is a very isolating place that makes you feel worthless & unimportant. It's not true. I MATTER. • • 2) I AM A STAR I may not be on Billboards Hot 100 (do they still do that, haha) but I AM A STAR Depression causes a thick black cloud that drowns out all the light and any sense of HOPE. I have to remind myself often that The Brightest Stars Shine On The Darkest Nights 🌟 • • 3) I AM WORTHY OF LOVE Loving myself. Love from others & most of all Love from my Heavenly Father. I Am Worthy Of Love & Every Good Thing! 4) I AM BEAUTIFUL IN ALL MY BEING Chronic illness & mental health disorders lead you to believe that you can't possibly be beautiful. When Depression hits the hardest your self-esteem becomes 10 times more fragile. The beauty I feel lacking isn't necessarily a physical beauty but constant battles with depression can cause me to feel 'mentally ugly'. I have to remind myself that the beauty I see in nature & in everyone else is the all encompassing beauty that I posses, but in my own way. • • 5) I AM IRREPLACEABLE INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS. NOT FEELING LIKE I BELONG. FEELING LIKE MY TIME HERE ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH OR THAT I'M USELESS... No One is ME & I AM IRREPLACEABLE. • • Thank you for reading. What important things has Mental Illness caused you to forget?! • • www.lauraspoonie.co.uk #MentalHealthAwareness
❤ •• YOU MATTER •• ❤ Hey my Lovelies, We've made it to December!! It hasn't been easy but it's a sign that we haven't given in no matter how hard it has been for all of us individually. This is just a little reminder for you & myself to simply BE. If you're just able to breathe & survive, I'm so proud of you. • • Life gets hard. Extremely hard. A constant battle with our failing bodies & minds all whilst trying to live in this evil filled world. Take the time to recognise how well you're doing, celebrate your successes, celebrate your wins, celebrate YOU. You're so much stronger than you even realise & deserving of every good thing that comes your way, now and in the future. • • May this last month of 2018 be one where you SHINE the brightest, because you're all STARS 🌟 From ME to YOU Lots of Love & Gentle Hugs, Laura ❤ One Spoon At A Time, My Loves 👣❤ (Art work by fellow #spoonie & friend - @rachael_hope90)

👻: laura_spoonie 🚀 🌸❤ • • It's really draining how chronic illness stops you from doing so many things in life & then also makes you suffer the consequences of the activities/outings you do get to make it to. In all honesty I don't even think I have 'FUN' anymore because I'm so scared of the physical, mental & emotional payback that I'm going to suffer from just trying to be a normal human being for a few hours. • • When I do get out I try my hardest to live in the moment even though my body is constantly burning from head to toe, aching and dying for pain relief, a permanent pain relief. I'm merely acting when I push myself to make it out of the house because it's like trying to break free from chains that hold me back, but the chains are invisible... I could show the bruises, the swelling, the medication & wipe off the make up but what does that prove? If your limb isn't in a cast how do you prove your illnesses? • • "But you're too young to be ill"... "Why are you using a disability aid?"..."But you left the house yesterday, why can't you do anything today"... "Oh, so you're enjoying yourself & wearing make up. So you're cured now then?" LOOOL (I say a silent prayer every time I get ignorant comments. The thing is YOU DON'T... You DON'T prove your illnesses to anyone, you don't justify why you needed to let your hair down, you don't explain to ignorance why you pushed yourself to have a break from your regular chronic illness routine, you try your hardest to SEIZE EVERY SINGLE DAY & every little victory you have because you simply just don't know the next time you'll have the chance to get out of bed, face the world & experience euphoria again, even for a few hours. • • I can't move my body now, bed bound, Fibro & CRPS are my enemies & I haven't eaten anything all day 😷 Sometimes, the payback is worth it. @HyperJapanOfficial was worth it ありがとうございました 🙏🏾🍥💖 • • (Please don't leave comments about CBD Products or random magic potions that miraculously 'CURE' my chronic illnesses - with all due #RESPECT I'll "BLOCK u, next") • • Love & Light 🌌, Laura XOXO #LifeOfASpoonie

BLOG: Let’s Talk, Mental Health - 💻 lauraspoonie.blog/blog • • During the month of October I made the conscious effort to connect more with my blogging & social media audience, also focussing on producing #MentalHealthAwareness articles, collaberated with one of my favourite bloggers and opened up about my own mental health struggles. • • Connecting and networking with people is something that I always intented to do on my platforms as I wanted to create spaces where people feel comfortable and safe to express the challenges they face due to physical, emotional and mental challenges. • • Recently I ran a poll on Twitter – What’s most likely to stop you from seeking help for your MENTAL HEALTH needs? (Twitter poll results featured on Insta Story) I got responses from people who expanded on their own experience regarding mental health support • • It was highlighted that mental health services are there but AREN'T EASY TO ACCESS, reasons being location of therapy centres and transportation was also a big issue for people. However, the concern that was most expressed was the COST of therapy and having efficient access to mental health services, some even mentioning that they do infact realise they need help for their mental health but simply can not financially afford to do so or cannot physically attend because of other health issues (a lot of the time due to physical chronic illnesses). • • Now to you, #Instagram Family, What’s most likely to stop you from seeking help for your MENTAL HEALTH needs? & What are the main barriers you face? Let me know in the comment section down below ⬇ • • Subscribe to my blog to stay upto date with Mental Health Mondays - (lauraspoonie.blog/blog) www.lauraspoonie.co.uk #KeepTalkingMH #LifeOfASpoonie #LauraSpoonieBlogs 💚
BLOG: #CRPSAwareness - Burn Baby BURN 🔥 - Link in description • • Hey my Lovelies, November is CRPS Awareness Month & the first Monday of November is dedicated to raising awareness for CPRS by wearing Orange … So I gladly wear my orange scarf for CRPS… but mainly because it’s cold, Brrr ❄ • • I am one of the 1 in 3,800 in the UK that has been diagnosed with this degenerative neurological disease – Type 2 CRPS. In 2013, when I was 19 years of age I was diagnosed with this neurological disorder (CRPS) and I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia on the same date… Have ONE Chronic Illness... get ONE free 😒 • • Hope you gain a little understanding about #CRPS from reading my article - (Link in description) • • www.lauraspoonie.co.uk #CRPS #LifeOfASpoonie #LauraSpoonieBlogs 🔥
