Two Friday’s ago I went to Hyper Japan for the first time.

Hyper Japan ハイアールジャパン 2018

 

What is Hyper Japan?!

HYPER JAPAN is the largest exhibition celebrating Japanese culture. It was first held in London 2010 and since 2014 has taken place twice a year, in July and November. The Japanese exhibition is centered on everything popular that makes so many people fall in love with Japan and it’s culture such as gaming, manga, anime, the music and many more. The event is a great chance at getting to experience a little taste of Japan, meeting lovely people, some who come over from Japan especially for the event. The exhibition includes different areas that focus on technology, fashion, food, and traditional arts & crafts.

The Japanese exhibition is held twice a year, once in summer and once in the winter time. I had missed the chance of going to the summer theme for Hyper Japan as I was too ill so I was happy when heard they would be holding another one in November.

Location & Travel

 

 

 

Hyper Japan was held at Olympia London, in Kensington West London. I only realised after my arrival at the venue that I had been to that location before, 4 years prior for a Hair & Beauty convention when I was doing my Hairdressing course in college.

It’s a pretty straightforward & easy location to get to, they also had disabled priority entrance for individuals with disabled concession tickets (I wasn’t able to get them because the Government still hasn’t acknowledged me as a disabled being – I’ll get into that on another post).

We were given purple Hyper Japan wristbands on entrance after tickets were scanned. These were handy & didn’t irritate my skin which I’m thankful for.

The timetable for Hyper Japan ran from 12-8pm with many different activities and live show performances taking place right through.

I was in absolute agony before the day even begun and although I was actually very excited to go, my mood was really sour but I refused to let my illnesses take away yet another fun opportunity that I was looking forward to experiencing.

The convention was filled with so many cute things. Fluffy toys, fan art, stationary etc.

 

 

 

Mutant モンスター

I saw Mutant Monster, a Pop Punk-Rock girl band from Japan. This was my first time ever seeing them and only found out about this girl band at the beginning of November, glad I did because they’re SO AWESOME. I knew they were going to be there for the day & was most looking forward to seeing them out of everything really as their music is right up my street. The weeks before their performances I was singing all their songs & practicing, it was sort of helping me to get through the fact that my body was feeling super worn out and in pain.

They performed one of the songs from their new album, one of my favourite songs called, 離してあげる (Romaji spelling & pronunciation – ha-na-shi-te-a-ge-ru).

I haven’t been anywhere as close to the stage as I did with this girl group and honestly, I don’t know if I could do that again but it felt pretty cool and I’m glad I saw them.

There was an opportunity to get autographs by them as soon as they finished their set, but by the time I turned around the line was too long and “aint nobody got time for that”.

By hometime, I was ready to call an ambulance 😭. It was such a long day and so many things were going on which as an extremely hypersensitive person (HSP) it was definitely like being in the deep end for me, I’m just glad I went on Friday, which is the least busy out of all three days. I have to say the venue was lacking chairs and places to take a rest I guess that may be because they want people to be walking around all the time buying things and watching performances but… your girls tired! I took several breaks to sit down when I could actually find a chair. I also made the decision to leave my walking cane at home because I carried my large umbrella along for the day and can’t manage both.

 

 

 

 

Hair & Outfit

I’ve never been a fashionista, Lol I would describe my ‘style’ as ‘less hits & mostly misses’ 😂 and I could care less to be honest. Going to a Japanese convention is like the best thing for a person who isn’t quite put together because all you really need to be is ‘BRIGHT’.

I wore my bright pin-striped leggins with my pink platform converses and my green gilet (which I accessorised and sewed myself the night before). I sprayed glitter in my hair and left it curly and that was basically my outfit for Hyper Japan LOL

I’m happy I got to Hyper Japan Winter 2018.

I really don’t know how my health will be in a years time from now and I definitely suffered the consequences of this outing but it was the chance to experience my first Japanese culture convention and it also gave me a chance to feel like I’m getting one step closer to Japan.
